How we pick deals
Premium over spot is what a product costs above the value of its fine metal. We measure it against the Ask spot price shown across our site. A 1 oz coin at $4,200 with gold at $4,000 carries a 5% premium.
A deal is a product whose premium today is lower than on at least 75% of its own days in the last two years (the bottom quarter of its own history), that was there on its previous recorded day too, that is in stock, and that has at least 90 days of history. No category is left out. Products we deliberately price outside their history are never listed. Our pick marks products we choose to show first, with our reason; they appear even when they don’t qualify.
History comes from our own recorded prices since Oct 27, 2024, each set against the spot price it was calculated from, one value per day. The bar on each card (“Today vs its last 2 years”) places today’s premium among that product’s own recorded days in the last two years: the dot sits further toward “lower” the more of those days had a higher premium. It has no time axis and shows no premium levels. The “lower premium than on X% of its days” figure is the same comparison in words, against every recorded day in that period. Both appear only when today’s premium is lower than on more than half of those days; a product recorded for less than two years is compared with its days since its first record, and the card says since when. Where we lowered a premium in the last 12 months, the card gives the date. Today’s premium of every product and full charts of its history are on our premiums pages.
Same metal, cheaper format compares cost per fine ounce: the typical (median) check/wire price per fine ounce of the pieces of one metal and size in stock today, against the coin and the bar or round of that size that cost less per fine ounce. Each piece is measured on the fine metal it actually contains.
Prices are check/wire prices for one piece (check/wire orders from $1,000), with the card/PayPal price (5% more) beside them. As low as is the check/wire price per piece at the largest quantity tier our checkout gives that product (the condition is printed beside it, for example “each · at 100+ · check/wire”); quantity pricing applies up to the quantity we have in stock. A product without quantity pricing shows its check/wire price for one piece. Quantity pricing counts each product separately in the cart. Cost per fine ounce divides the price by the fine metal it contains. Shipping and any sales tax are added at checkout, where your price is locked for 10 minutes.
Past premiums don’t predict future ones, and a low premium says nothing about where metal prices go next. Prices move with spot every few minutes; the price at checkout is the one that counts. This page describes our prices; it isn’t investment advice.
