Description
The American Eagle Gold Proof Coins are collector versions of the official United States Mint American Eagle Gold Coins and are available in limited mintages in four sizes: 1 Oz., 1/50 Oz., 1/25 Oz., 1/10 Oz. These exquisite coins represent the finest craftsmanship the United States Mint has to offer, and are struck at the West Point Mint in New York State.
The obverse features Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ full-length figure of the beauty and power of America, captured in the graceful Lady Liberty with flowing hair holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. The reverse design, executed by sculptor Miley Busiek, features a male eagle carrying an olive branch flying above a nest containing a female eagle and their eaglets representing the strength and security of American families
This design for the 1907-1933 $20 U.S. Double Eagle Gold Coin, is the basis for the American Eagle Gold Coin, introduced 1986 in four sizes, 1 Oz., 1/50 Oz., 1/25 Oz. and 1/10 Oz., which become the world’s most widely traded gold bullion coins
By law, only gold mined in The United States is used in the minting of American Eagle Gold Proof Coins, and American Eagle Gold Coins.
