Silver is both a monetary metal and an industrial one — solar panels, electronics, and medical uses consume most annual supply — so its price moves with investment demand and the industrial cycle alike.

Why Invest in Silver?

Silver offers precious-metals exposure at a low entry price and has historically outperformed gold in strong bull markets. Its dual monetary-industrial nature makes it more volatile than gold — bigger swings both ways.

The Gold-to-Silver Ratio

The ratio of the gold price to the silver price is a classic valuation gauge. High ratios have historically marked moments when silver was cheap relative to gold; many stackers trade the ratio by switching between metals.

Industrial Demand

Silver is the best electrical conductor of all metals. Photovoltaics, EVs, and electronics consume hundreds of millions of ounces a year, tightening the balance between mine supply and investment demand.

Silver Price FAQ

What is the spot price of silver?

The spot price is the current market rate for one troy ounce of .999 fine silver for immediate settlement, set by continuous global trading. Dealer prices for physical silver are quoted as a premium over this spot price.

Why are silver premiums higher than gold premiums?

Minting a silver coin costs nearly as much as minting a gold one, but the metal itself is worth far less — so the fixed cost is a larger share of the price. Premiums as a percentage are therefore naturally higher on silver.

  • A gold coin

Minting is a small share of the price: a lower premium %

  • A silver coin

Minting is a larger share of the price: a higher premium %

What is junk silver?

Pre-1965 U.S. dimes, quarters, and half dollars are 90% silver. They trade close to their melt value, making them a popular low-premium way to hold small, divisible silver.

How much silver is in a silver dollar?

Morgan and Peace dollars contain 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver. Multiply that by the spot price for the melt value; what we pay for each coin is on our buy-price list.

Does the silver price follow gold?

Usually, but with more amplitude: silver tends to rise and fall further than gold in percentage terms. Industrial demand can also decouple it from gold for stretches.

Is silver taxed differently than gold?

Sales-tax treatment of bullion varies by state, and both metals are treated as collectibles for U.S. federal capital-gains purposes. Check your state's rules or ask us before ordering.
