We pay: what we pay for one item at the spot bid shown, in person or by mail (an estimate: a sale is priced from spot when you sell, and the minimum sale is $1,000). % of spot bid: our buy price per ounce of metal divided by the spot bid, the market price we pay from. Our price: our check/wire price for one, as on the product page (card and PayPal prices are 5% higher). Spread: the gap between the two, as a share of our price. Break-even: how far spot would have to rise from today before our buy price for the item reaches today’s price.

Gold coins we buy
We buy
- Modern gold bullion coins: American Eagles and Buffalos, Canadian Maple Leafs, Krugerrands, Philharmonics, Kangaroos and others, in every size.
- U.S. gold coins struck before 1933: $20 Liberty and St. Gaudens double eagles, $10 and $5 Liberty and Indian coins, at melt value.
- British Sovereigns, at melt value.
- World gold bullion coins such as Mexican pesos, Austrian ducats and coronas, Russian rubles and German marks, at their gold value.
- Collector gold coins we carry, on their gold content; rare coins we don’t usually deal in at spot − 5% (request a quote).
We don’t buy
- Gold jewelry, scrap or dental gold.
- Casting grain or any other grain, as standard. For larger lots, contact us: we can melt it into one homogeneous bar, assay it, and pay based on the assay.
Selling gold coins: questions
Do you pay more for graded or rare gold coins?
No. The collector coins we carry, pre-1933 U.S. gold coins and British Sovereigns are bought for the gold they contain (melt value), whatever their grade; rare coins we don’t usually deal in are bought at spot − 5%. If a coin has a collector premium, a numismatic dealer may pay more for it.

Spot − 5%
Do you buy fractional gold coins?
Yes, at the same percentage of spot per ounce as 1 oz coins. Because small coins cost more to buy, their spread between our selling and buying prices is wider.
How do you price a pre-1933 $20 gold coin?
From the gold it contains, at a set percentage of spot. The buy price for each type and condition is in the table above.
Can I walk in to sell gold coins?
Yes, no appointment needed. Bring the coins and a government-issued photo ID to 20 West 47th Street, Lower Level #24. For standard bullion coins the sale typically takes 3–6 minutes.
How am I paid?
In person: by check the same day, or by wire or Zelle. By mail: by check, wire or Zelle within 1–3 business days after your coins are approved.
