We pay: what we pay for one item at the spot bid shown, in person or by mail (an estimate: a sale is priced from spot when you sell, and the minimum sale is $1,000). % of spot bid: our buy price per ounce of metal divided by the spot bid, the market price we pay from. Our price: our check/wire price for one, as on the product page (card and PayPal prices are 5% higher). Spread: the gap between the two, as a share of our price. Break-even: how far spot would have to rise from today before our buy price for the item reaches today’s price.
How we price silver
Our silver buy prices are the silver in the item times the spot bid, less a fixed amount per ounce: spot minus $3.00 an ounce for popular and current items, minus $5.00 for silver we don’t usually deal in. On this list today that is spot minus $3.00 an ounce for 139 items; spot minus $5.00 an ounce for 2 items. Weight sets the total, not the rate: a 10 oz bar is worth ten times the per-ounce price.
A 1 oz Silver Eagle costs $60.05 from us today and we pay $46.58 for one, a spread of 22.4%: Silver 27.2% would have to rise about that much before one bought today could be sold back at no loss. Larger bars and coins usually have smaller spreads than fractional and specialty pieces.
