The US Mint began producing the American Eagle Coins in 1997 but stopped the production of the non-proof coins from 2008-2013. The American Eagle is the only coin in the United States that is made of platinum.

The official platinum bullion coin of the US government is the American Platinum Eagle Coin. The federal government backs the purity, weight, and metal content of each of these platinum eagles coin produced by the US Mint.

According to the Act of Congress, these coins are deemed legal tender, giving the 1 oz issue a face value of $100, the largest value of any US coin. Each of these 1 oz platinum eagle coins consists of 1 troy oz of .9995 pure platinum.

On the Obverse, of the 1 oz Platinum Eagle Coin features the depiction of an image of the statue of liberty, with her gaze fixed in the distance. The word “Liberty” is written across the top of the coin and to the right of her face the year of minting i.e and the phrase In God We Trust is inscribed.

On the reverse, of the 1 oz Platinum American Eagle Coin features the depiction of the image of an American bald eagle soaring over the horizon with the sun in the background. The Text “United States of America” is inscribed just above the American Eagle. The 1 oz American Eagle coins’ weight, weight, metal content, and face value can also be found on the reverse.
