How we price silver
Our silver buy prices are the silver in the item times spot, less a fixed amount per ounce. Today that is spot minus $3.00 an ounce for 139 items; spot minus $5.00 an ounce for 2 items. A 10 oz bar is worth ten times the per-ounce price, so size changes the total but not the rate.
Silver’s spread is wide, and we show it. A 1 oz Silver Eagle costs $60.05 from us today and we pay $46.58 for one, a spread of 22.4%. Silver would have to rise about 27.2% before a Silver Eagle bought from us today could be sold back at no loss.
Why so wide? Minting, shipping and handling a coin cost about the same whatever it is made of, so the premium is a much larger share of a $50 ounce of silver than of a $3,940 ounce of gold, and a dealer buying it back recovers little of that premium. The narrowest silver spread on our list today is 12.7%, on the 1 oz Silver Rounds Random Brand (Lot of 10) Circulated Condition.

We pay: what we pay for one item at the spot bid shown, in person or by mail (an estimate: a sale is priced from spot when you sell, and the minimum sale is $1,000). % of spot bid: our buy price per ounce of metal divided by the spot bid, the market price we pay from. Our price: our check/wire price for one, as on the product page (card and PayPal prices are 5% higher). Spread: the gap between the two, as a share of our price. Break-even: how far spot would have to rise from today before our buy price for the item reaches today’s price.

Silver we buy, and silver we don’t
We buy
- Silver bullion coins: American Silver Eagles, Canadian Maple Leafs, Britannias, Krugerrands, Philharmonics, Kangaroos, Pandas and more, singly, in tubes or in monster boxes.
- Silver bars from 1 oz to 100 oz and kilo coins.
- .999 silver rounds, including rounds that copy old coin designs.
- 90% U.S. silver coins (“junk silver”): dimes, quarters and half dollars, by face value, on the silver they contain.
- Morgan and Peace silver dollars, and the collector and novelty silver coins we carry.
We don’t buy
- Casting grain or any other grain, as standard. For larger lots, contact us: we can melt it into one homogeneous bar, assay it, and pay based on the assay.
- Sterling silverware, flatware and silver jewelry.
- Scrap silver.
Selling silver: questions
Do you buy junk silver or Morgan dollars?
Yes. We buy back what we sell, including 90% U.S. silver coins and Morgan and Peace silver dollars, priced on the silver they contain. We don’t buy sterling silver or scrap, or casting grain and other grain as standard: for larger lots of grain, contact us and we can melt it into one homogeneous bar, assay it, and pay based on the assay.
Can I sell silver without an appointment in NYC?
Yes. Walk in to 20 West 47th Street, Lower Level #24, Monday to Thursday 8:30 AM–4:00 PM or Friday 8:30 AM–1:00 PM, with a government-issued photo ID.
Why do you pay so much less than you charge for a Silver Eagle?
Because most of a Silver Eagle’s premium over spot pays for minting and distribution, and little of it comes back when the coin is resold. The table shows the spread for every silver item, so you can compare coins, rounds and bars before you buy or sell.
Do you buy whole tubes and monster boxes?
Yes. Tubes and 500-coin monster boxes of the coins on our list have their own buy prices in the full list.
How am I paid?
In person: by check the same day, or by wire or Zelle. By mail: by check, wire or Zelle within 1–3 business days after your items are approved.
