By mail · all US states
Mail in, insured
- Find your items in our sell list and send a sell request with today’s estimate (you sign in or create an account to send it), or request a quote for anything that isn’t listed. The minimum is $1,000 per sale.
- We email you mailing instructions. Ship your items fully insured, following them exactly.
- When your items arrive we inspect and verify them, then pay our rates at the spot price at that time: your online figure is an estimate, not a locked price. Payment is issued within 1–3 business days after approval, by check, wire or Zelle.
What happens at the counter
For most common gold bars and coins, the process is very quick. The first step is a visual inspection. Because we buy and sell bullion every day, we are familiar with how major gold coins and bars should look, feel, and measure. We then verify the item using our precious-metals testing equipment and weigh it to confirm the weight.
Once we are satisfied that the gold is genuine, we check the current spot price and give you our purchase quote. If you accept, we complete the transaction and issue payment right away. The gold does not have to be sent elsewhere for testing or go through a lengthy approval process. For a standard, recognizable gold bar or coin, the entire process typically takes only 3–6 minutes from inspection to payment.
Does the assay card or packaging matter?
It helps, but it isn’t required. Bars still sealed in their assay card or holder resell better, so we generally pay more for them. Bars that are out of the card or have been handled are still bought, at a lower price.

What we buy, and what we don’t
We buy
- Gold bullion coins such as American Eagles, Buffalos, Maple Leafs and Krugerrands, and gold bars from 1 gram up.
- Silver bullion coins such as Silver Eagles, Maple Leafs and Britannias, rounds, and bars up to 100 oz.
- Platinum and palladium Eagles, Maple Leafs and bars.
- World gold bullion coins such as Mexican pesos, Austrian ducats and coronas, Russian rubles and German marks, U.S. gold coins struck before 1933 ($20, $10 and $5 Liberty, St. Gaudens and Indian) and British Sovereigns, at their gold (melt) value.
- 90% U.S. silver coins (“junk silver”) and Morgan and Peace silver dollars, on the silver they contain, and the collector coins we carry.
- Items we don’t usually deal in: request a quote. If we buy them, the rate is spot − 5% for gold, platinum and palladium, or spot − $5.00 an ounce for silver.
We don’t buy
- Casting grain or any other grain, as standard (we sell it, but it is hard to verify that grain hasn’t been mixed with other metal). For larger lots, contact us: we can melt it into one homogeneous bar, assay it, and pay based on the assay.
- Jewelry, scrap or dental gold.
- Sterling silverware or flatware.
Sell by mail: find your items

“Spread vs spot” is our dealer margin below the live spot price. The Buy-back price is today’s estimate per item, priced from spot (refreshed every 15 minutes); we pay our rates at the spot price when your items arrive and are verified.

How we set our buy prices
- From spot
- Every buy price is the metal in the item times a share of the spot bid, the market price dealers buy at. Gold, platinum and palladium: spot − 3% for popular items and items we sell, spot − 5% for other items. Silver: spot − $3.00 an ounce for popular and current items, spot − $5.00 an ounce for items we don’t usually deal in. Our list shows the result for each item.
- The spread
- What we sell an item for and what we pay for it differ. Today the gap is 8.3% on a 1 oz Gold Eagle and 22.4% on a 1 oz Silver Eagle. Silver’s is wider because coin premiums are a much larger share of a $50 ounce than of a $3,940 one.
- When the price is set
- Online prices are estimates: they follow spot and refresh every 15 minutes. At the counter we quote from the live spot price at the time of sale. By mail, we pay our rates at the spot price when your items arrive and are verified, so the final amount can differ from your estimate.

Selling bullion: common questions
Should I sell in person or by mail?
If you can get to Midtown Manhattan, walking in is quickest: for a standard, recognizable gold bar or coin the sale typically takes 3–6 minutes, and you are paid the same day. If not, sell by mail from any US state: send a sell request online and ship your items insured using the instructions we email you. We pay our rates at the spot price when they arrive and are verified.

Is there a minimum or maximum?
The minimum is $1,000 per sale, in person or by mail. There is no maximum.
Is the price on this page the price I’ll get?
It is an estimate. Online prices follow spot and refresh every 15 minutes. At the counter we quote from the live spot price at the time of sale, so the price can differ if the market has moved. By mail, we pay our rates at the spot price when your items arrive and are verified, not the estimate shown when you sent your request.
